Verification

Confirm an email address or phone number with a short one-time code.

Verification is how a person proves an email or phone number is really theirs. It happens right after sign-up and any time someone changes their email or phone.

How it works

  1. The person receives a short one-time code by email or text.
  2. They enter the code on the verification page.
  3. Once it matches, that email or phone is confirmed.

Either an email or a phone number can satisfy verification — a person doesn't have to confirm both to get started.

Good to know

DetailWhat to expect
Code expiryA code is valid for about 15 minutes. After that, request a new one.
AttemptsThere are a few tries per code. Too many wrong entries and the person needs a fresh code.
ResendIf a code doesn't arrive or expires, click Resend to get a new one.

If a code isn't arriving by email, ask the person to check their spam or promotions folder. For text messages, make sure the phone number was entered correctly, including the country code.

After verification

Once an email or phone is confirmed, a pending account becomes active and the person can sign in normally. See Accounts & sign-in.
