Sharing & Limits

How your files stay private, and the sensible file-type and size limits that keep your platform safe.

Your platform keeps your files private and applies sensible limits on what can be uploaded. This page explains, in plain terms, who can see your files and why some uploads are restricted.

Your files stay private

Files in your library belong to your platform and are not visible to the public by default. A file only becomes reachable to others when you attach it to something people can see — for example, a published website page, a lesson a learner is enrolled in, or a product you sell.

In short:

  • Not attached anywhere → private to your platform.
  • Attached to something public → visible to whoever can see that thing.

You decide where each file appears by choosing where to attach it.

File-type and size limits

To keep your platform safe and running smoothly, there are limits on what can be uploaded:

  • File type — everyday teaching and media files are accepted (documents, PDFs, images, audio, video). Some file types are blocked because they aren't meant for a learning library.
  • File size — there's a maximum size per file. Large media files are supported, but there's still an upper limit.

If a file is refused, it's usually because of its type or because it's larger than the allowed size.

You can set a separate, smaller size limit for files that learners upload — handy if you want to keep submissions modest while still allowing large videos in your own course content.

What to do if a file is refused

SituationWhat to try
File is too largeCompress it, or split it into smaller files. For long videos, export at a lower quality.
File type isn't allowedSave it in a common format (for example, export to PDF).
A learner's file is refused but yours isn'tA smaller size limit may apply to learner uploads. Adjust the learner limit if needed.

Good to know

  • Limits protect everyone — they keep your library tidy and your platform fast.
  • Sharing is always your choice: nothing becomes public until you attach it somewhere public.
  • If you're unsure why a file won't upload, check its size and type first — those are the two most common reasons.
