Leaderboards

Rank learners by their best quiz score and show a merit list to add friendly competition.

A leaderboard ranks learners by how well they did on a quiz. It can add friendly competition and motivate learners to improve. You can show it publicly as a merit list, or keep it private.

How ranking works

Learners are ranked by their best attempt on the quiz. For each learner the leaderboard can show:

  • Name
  • Score (points)
  • Percentage
  • Number of attempts

Ranking by best attempt means a learner who keeps practising is rewarded for their highest result, not penalized for earlier tries.

Showing or hiding the merit list

Use the merit-list visibility toggle to decide whether learners can see the leaderboard:

  • On — learners see the ranking (a merit list).
  • Off — the leaderboard is private; only you can see it.

A visible merit list works well for practice quizzes and friendly challenges. For sensitive or high-stakes exams, you may prefer to keep results private.

What the learner sees

When the merit list is on, learners see the ranking with names, scores, and percentages — and where they stand. When it is off, they see only their own result.

Good to know

  • Leaderboards pair naturally with quizzes that allow multiple attempts, so learners can climb the ranking by improving.
