Audiences
Build groups of people to send to — fixed manual lists or rule-based groups that update on their own.
An audience is a group of people you want to message. Build an audience once, then reuse it in any campaign. Audiences let you reach the right people instead of messaging everyone every time.
Two kinds of audience
| Type | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Static | A manual list of people you pick yourself. | A fixed group that does not change, like a specific event's attendees. |
| Dynamic | A group defined by rules, which updates itself as people match or stop matching. | An ever-changing group, like "learners who haven't finished Module 1". |
A static audience stays exactly as you set it. A dynamic audience refreshes on its own — new people who match the rules join automatically, and people who no longer match drop out.
What dynamic rules can use
You build a dynamic audience by setting conditions on what you know about each learner. You can filter on:
- Learner details — the basic information on their profile.
- Enrollment — what they are enrolled in.
- Progress — how far they have gotten.
- Completion — what they have finished.
- Quiz scores — how they performed on quizzes.
- Subscription or billing status — for example, active or lapsed.
- Engagement — how active they have been recently.
For example: "learners enrolled in Photography Basics who are less than 50% through and have not signed in for two weeks."
Preview and size
Before you send, you can:
- Preview the audience to see who is in it right now.
- See an estimated size — how many people it currently includes.
This helps you confirm you are reaching the right group before launching a campaign.
How to create an audience
- Go to Admin → Communication → Audiences.
- Click New Audience.
- Choose Static (pick people) or Dynamic (set rules).
- For dynamic, add your conditions.
- Click Preview to check who matches and the estimated size.
- Click Save.
Good to know
- Dynamic audiences are powerful for ongoing campaigns — set the rule once and the right people always receive it.
- Use Preview before every important send, so there are no surprises about who gets it.
- For comparison, the notice board has its own built-in targeting (by role, course, cohort, and more) — audiences here are for email, SMS, push, and chat campaigns.
