Notification Inbox
The in-app feed where each learner sees their personal messages and unread count.
The notification inbox is each learner's personal feed inside your platform. It collects the messages meant for them — reminders, updates, and announcements sent over the platform — so they have one place to catch up, even if they missed the email or text.
The inbox is different from the notice board. The notice board shows shared notices for a group; the inbox shows messages addressed to that one person.
What the learner sees
- A bell or inbox icon with an unread count showing how many new messages they have.
- A list of messages, newest first. Each message has:
- A title.
- A short body.
- An optional action link — for example "Resume your course" or "View your receipt".
- The ability to mark one message as read, or mark all as read at once.
How it fills up
The inbox is filled automatically as things happen on your platform and as you send campaigns. A learner does not add anything themselves — it is their record of messages sent to them.
Each learner controls how much arrives, on which channels, in their notification preferences.
What is kept and what is not
Most messages stay in the inbox so a learner can read them later. Some sensitive, one-time messages are not kept in the inbox — for example a sign-in verification code. These are delivered once and then gone, which keeps private codes from sitting around.
The inbox is part of every signed-in person's experience — learners, instructors, and admins all have one.
Good to know
- The unread count clears as the learner reads messages or chooses mark all as read.
- An action link is the fastest way to send someone straight to the right page — use it in your message templates where it helps.
