Push Notifications & Devices

How phones, tablets, and browsers receive push alerts, and how learners manage their registered devices.

Push notifications are short alerts that pop up on a learner's phone, tablet, or browser — even when they do not have your platform open. They are a fast way to nudge people back to a lesson, remind them of a deadline, or share urgent news.

Push is one of the channels you can turn on, and you can include push in any campaign.

How learners get push

For push to work, a learner's device has to register to receive it. This usually means the learner agrees to a one-time "Allow notifications?" prompt on their phone, tablet, or browser. After that, their device can receive your push alerts.

A learner can register more than one device — for example their phone and their laptop browser — and they will receive push on each.

Managing devices

A learner can manage their own devices at any time. They can:

  • List the devices that are set up to receive push.
  • Update a device — for example renaming it so it is easy to recognize.
  • Remove a device they no longer use, so it stops receiving alerts.

Learners find this in their account under Settings → Notifications → Devices.

Default look of your push alerts

You can set a default icon and badge for push so your alerts look like they come from your academy. You set these where you turn the push channel on — see Channels.

What the learner sees

  • A short alert with a title and body appears on their device.
  • Tapping it can open the right page in your platform, if the message includes a link.
  • Push respects their preferences and quiet hours, so they are not disturbed when they have asked not to be.

Good to know

  • Push only reaches learners who have allowed it on at least one device — keep email on too, so you can still reach everyone.
  • Keep push messages short and clear; there is little room, so lead with the point.
  • If a learner stops getting push, the usual fix is to re-allow notifications on their device, or check that the device is still listed and not removed.
